Local History
Mas del Castell's monuments are one of the many cultural legacies bequeathed by Catalonia's sub-comarca of the Lluçanès. Worth visiting here are the Romanic buildings that deck out the Way of St. Pere Casseres, a highly recommendable Romanic route.Up to the second half of the 11th century Mas del Castell belonged to the ancient demarcation of Oristà, jointly ruled by the castles of Olost and Tornamira.
Originally owned by the Olost family, the Castle of Olost was acquired by the Pegueras after both families struck an alliance in 1230. When Ramon de Peguera, lord of Olost and Tornamira, bought the Barony of Lluçà in 1376, most of the sub-comarca of the Lluçanès came under a single municipality. Olost is spread with masias that are full of character and tradition. In 1992, part of Oristà was incorporated into the municipality of Olost.
The Castle of Olost and its surroundings make for very interesting trips into the history and culture of the zone.
