ROUTE OF THE IBERIANS
The ROUTE OF THE IBERIANS offers the remains of one of the most important cultures of the peninsula-that which lent its name to the Iberian Peninsula itself.
Our proposed itinerary comprises the villages of Roda de Ter, Folgueroles, and the hill of Montgròs del Brull.
Located on the steep banks of the river of the same name, Roda de Ter stands out as an Iberian enclave because of its city walls and a pair of solid towers flanking the village entrance, as well as a series of workshops lined along a paved street.
In Folgueroles we find the Casol of Puigcastellet, an imposing fortification from which the whole territory was controlled. The strong walls, the strategic site on one of the foothills of the Guilleries, its fleeting occupation between 250 and 200 BC-it all bespeaks of a warlike past. In fact, that is why it was called a "barrier" fortification.
Last but not least, the hill of Montgròs del Brull, located within the Natural Park of Montseny, is an important Iberian fortification that dates back to the Bronze Age, when it held sway over one of the routes that went from the coast to the plains through Coll Formic.
ROMANIC ROUTE
The comarca of Osona is also rich in ROMANIC ROUTES, one of which goes from Vic to Sant Pere de Casserres. Clear signposts make for an easy travel on this route, which gives one the opportunity not only to come into close contact with nature, but also to visit some monuments of the Catalonian Romanic that evoke memorable events in the history of Catalonia.
The bridge of the Bruguer; the hermitage and the megalithic remains of Sant Jordi (the dolmen of Puigseslloses); the Romanic church of Sant Esteve de Tavèrnoles; the Iberian village and the hermitage of Sant Feliu de Savassona; masias of different styles and periods; and an assortment of Romanic art-from small chapels to the monastery of Sant Pere de Casserres-make up the history of this route, long used as an important communicating road from the central plains into the valley of Sau and the lands of Girona across the mountain pass of Terrades.
